The Bay of Pigs Invasion
In 1961 the Central Intelligence Agency was determined to assassinated Fidel Castro and topple his communist regime in Cuba. Cuba was very close to the United States, only 90 miles of the coast of Florida. Kennedy approved of the CIA's plan to create a small army of Cuban exiles to invade Cuba. The CIA figured that their exiles would be able to push into Cuba and gain the support of the oppressed people, then they would be able to destroy Castro's regime. Ultimately, this did not happen and the CIA's Cuban exiles were beaten soundly. There were airstrikes, but they failed to hit any targets. Later jets were called in, but they came in too late due to time zone confusions. Ultimately, this became known as the "Perfect Failure".
